Some Akkadian Terms

Amurru is the word which Akkadians used to refer to the west of the Euphrates (Aram, Syria). When describing the Amorites, who lived in the west of the Euphrates but who had a nomadic lifestyle, they used another term, ṭupšar amurru, and it might mean the westerners whose houses are made of goat hair. When referring specifically to a high ranking person (sheikh) among the Amorites, they used one of the following terms: abi amurru , or rabi amurru .
